How should I keyword images for Getty Images?

Getty Images works differently from Adobe Stock and Shutterstock. Every keyword has to match a term in Getty’s own controlled vocabulary, and each file needs between 5 and 50 keywords. Free-form keywords that do not match a Getty term are not accepted.

In the contributor portal, Getty can suggest valid keywords based on the words in your headline. That makes the headline the main lever for keyword quality:

  • name the main subject plainly and specifically (“golden retriever puppy”, not “cute dog”)
  • include the action, setting, and any important objects
  • mention people, mood, or concept only if they are clearly visible in the image
  • avoid stuffing the headline with keyword lists — it should read like a natural sentence or phrase.

Fylio follows this approach automatically: it writes a natural, descriptive headline for each file, requests Getty’s keyword suggestions from it, and applies them. Review the result before submitting and remove anything that does not describe your image.
